Hot Pink in Metal

Metal is one of the hottest things going in jewelry right now; it is so versatile and can be mixed with a variety of stones, crystals and any other metals such as links, coils and chains. I like working with the metal pendants because it gives such a unique look to the necklace design; it offers a completely different style than when using a crystal or natural stone pendant. This new design is all about the colors of pink and if pink is your color than this little number is perfect for you!

The set features matching metal pendant and earrings in the shape of a square, with brightly colored 2-tone of pink enamel and bronze/gold accents also in enamel. It has been hand wired with a bail and above lots of hand twisted charms in crystals and chocolate jasper.

The bling in this one is in all faceted rondelle crystals of pink raspberry, light champagne and pink just to name a few; there is also a unique stone, chocolate jasper that has a nice dark chocolate with light swirls of cream marbled together, cut as a rondelle with a matte polish.

This one is a fun and bright necklace with matching dangle earrings, which also have small clusters of crystals above the metal square pendants.

Custom Design Bling

The request from a customer came to mix a lot of crystals with bronzite and a pendant. Needless to say, it’s been a challenge, but then I love a good challenge! The customer had a good idea of what kind of set she wanted, just left it up to me to “Create something like you always do, just make sure it has lots of bling”, she said. Working to get the right mix of stones and crystals together, the hardest part was trying to find a pendant. First, I was trying to find a bronzite pendant to accent the entire piece, but I just couldn’t quite come across the right cut that looked good with the piece (though I get one from the resident gemologist, but I have other ideas for that one!).

What I did finally come across was the Ocos Agates I’ve been working with and the sparkling color mix on this one just struck me to mix with the necklace. So I laid it all out, included a lot of faceted crystals for a good amount of ‘bling effect’; the golden topaz brings out the gold flakes in the bronzite and the amethyst crystals bring out the brilliant pink/purple colors within the Ocos Agate, just accenting the druzy crystals, and handcrafted the agate with artistic non-tarnish brass wire. I added a touch of gold open spacers; fancy gold toggle and small accent dangle earrings, at her request, to complete the entire set.

The result is this uniquely handcraft custom bling, “Absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking”, she says; onto her next request, long and simple with a splash of gold and multi-color crystal bling. Like I said, I love a good challenge!

Pulse Check on Jewelry Fashion Trends

Cursing around the Net you can find almost any fashion site that offers their take on the latest pulse check for jewelry trends this season. It seems that big, bold geometric shapes with exotic and ethnic inspiration, rich colors using unusual prominent gemstones such as pendants or multi strand necklaces giving a layering effect are still hot and rising to the top of the list for the ‘hot jewelry fashion trend’ this season.

One significant different that I see is more use of metals such as Copper, Brass, and Antique Gold; in place of the staple Sterling Silver or Gold. With the price of both these metals, it is not hard to understand why so many are changing for one metal to another. I also have seen more designs in multi-strands of mixed stones and metal beads; attaching by using either beading thread colored to match the stones or beading wire. This gives the effect to the wearer of multi layering. Pendants are also in big, especially when matched with multi strands or large dangle/chandelier earrings.

Bracelets, bangles and cuffs are sill big too and the bigger the better. From simple chains to chunky bangles or arm cuffs in copper or brass with large center gemstones or free form inlayed exotic stones; the more unique the more in demand the piece.

Whatever your style from little black dress to the casual jeans and a t-shirt; the bottom line is that bigger, more exotic and unusual is the “Hot In” statement for jewelry fashions this season.
