Chrysanthemum
Stones, a mineral of 'blooming flowers' is a very popular collectible
and specimen. The chrysanthemum stone, long admired and valued in
China and Japan for their beauty and rarity, have been attracting
collectors and the metaphysical world for the past 30 years. The
stone is a natural occurrence in Enshi, Hubei Provicne, China and
contains more than ten kinds of trace elements such as selenium,
strontium, gold, silver, and bismuth. The Chrysanthemum Stones are
considered to be a Permian age (approx. 250 million years).
As its
name implies, it is shaped like a Chrysanthemum flower. These
flowers are embedded in a grey limestone, dolomite or porphyry with
lath-like minerals of celestite, calcite or feldspar constructing the
'petal' and chert the 'stamen'. Normally the diameter of the flower
ranges from 5 to 8 cm with a maximum being 50cm. The 'flowers' are
varied in shape with their petals stretching out freely in different
directions or attitudes.
